An account of the Salt River Cave conflict by Daklugie:

"...But I am going back to the terrible massacre at the cave high above the Salt River. The victims of that massacre were not of my tribe, but they were Apaches. That was soon after Crook was brought back to the Southwest to exterminate the Apaches. I have been to that place while there were still bones of my brothers to be seen. There are some who think that one man lived to escape, but I do not know whether or not that is true. If so, that was still extermination of a band. And all of our bands were small."
